The beef is slow cooked, chopped and sauced with Bar-B-Que Beast Sauce. You have asked to taste the winning sauces from the Sauce Boss Competition….here’s your chance! Bar–B-Que Beast BBQ Sauces hold the title for winning the BBQ Fest Sauce Boss Professional Competition over the past 3 years. Look for Bar-B-Que Beast Sauce for sale at their vendor booth at the festival. Delicious sweet potato fries and ice-cold drinks are also available to compliment this BBQ treat! Wil King Hog Happenin' cook teams and sponsors will be introduced by
Tammy Kelly, Lenoir County Extension Director, Laura Lee Sylvester,
President Kinston-Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce, and Gary Reymer,
Director of Assembly from Spirit Aero Systems. Let's make these teams feel
welcome and show our support for both teams and sponsors!

Showmanship competition
7:30 p.m. • Location: Herritage and Caswell Streets Cook Teams in parking lot
Don't miss this fun and entertaining competition: The cook teams go all out to
really "put on the hog" as they compete for the showmanship awards in this
competition. Past teams have entertained festival attendees with all kinds of
themes -- from singing cowboys to gambling pigs -- you won't believe that
pig cookin' can be so much fun! A preliminary competition to the
"Super Bowl of Swine," the Hog Happenin' will host more than 80 award-winning
barbecue cookers. Sanctioned by the North Carolina Pork Council, the
Hog Happenin' cookoff is one of the most prestigious barbecue competitions
in the state.

Downtown Festival: Shop, Dine & Stroll
8 a.m.-5 p.m.

New for 2018 – While our vendors are setting up the BBQ Festival we will highlight downtown on Friday by offering you the chance to shop, dine and stroll in the festival area. Shuttles will stop at the corners of Mitchell and Caswell Streets, Mitchell and Gordon Streets, Mitchell and North Streets, Queen and Caswell, Queen and Blount to shuttle folks to the festival area. Downtown merchants will offer special shopping and dining events and discounts. Register at participating locations to win prizes and gift cards donated by local businesses. Check back often for an updated list of prizes. Drawings will be held during the festival and announced from the stage and on social media. You must register between 9 a.m. and 5 p. m. on Friday, May 4 at participating locations to be eligible to win.

In 1978, Gary Dennis and Doug Manning were playing in a Raleigh based Top 40/Beach Music Band together called Carolina Trace. Gary at the time was also a member of an acappella vocal group at UNC-CH called the North Tower Quartet. With Carolina Trace unable to gain traction and bands capable of doing floor shows at the time having the most success, Gary and Doug decided to form a new band with the bass player and soundman for Carolina Trace, Bill Brooks and Anthony Tart who switched to trumpet and add the guys from the quartet to form a Beach, Top 40 and Show Group.
